NVIDIA Mellanox® MCA7J60-N005 (NVIDIA P/N 980-9I949-00N005) is an active copper cable (ACC) splitter that breaks one OSFP 800Gb/s NDR port into two OSFP 400Gb/s legs. It IS an active copper InfiniBand NDR splitter; it IS NOT a passive DAC, an AOC, or an Ethernet QSFP-DD cable. Condition: New.

Engineering Context. The OSFP trunk carries 8 lanes of 100Gb/s PAM4 (800Gb/s aggregate). Each OSFP leg receives 4 lanes of 100Gb/s PAM4 = 400Gb/s. Conductor is 28AWG with an LSZH jacket. Active conditioning embedded in the OSFP modules extends the usable copper reach to 5m at NDR speeds, beyond the limits of passive copper for 100Gb/s-per-lane PAM4. Pulltab color: black.

Deployment & Use Cases. Used to fan one OSFP 800G port on a Quantum-2 NDR switch out to two NDR endpoints at 400Gb/s, such as ConnectX-7 adapters running in NDR (4x100G) mode. Typical workloads: NDR InfiniBand AI training fabrics, GPU compute clusters, and dense HPC nodes where 5m cross-rack reach exceeds passive copper budget.

Technical Specifications.

  • Cable type: Active Copper Cable (ACC) splitter
  • Topology: OSFP to 2x OSFP
  • Aggregate data rate: 800Gb/s
  • Per-leg data rate: 400Gb/s
  • Signaling: 100Gb/s PAM4 per lane
  • Protocol: InfiniBand NDR
  • Length: 5m
  • Conductor gauge: 28AWG
  • Jacket: LSZH
  • Pulltab color: Black
  • NVIDIA Part Number: 980-9I949-00N005

Compatibility & Constraints. Compatible with NVIDIA Quantum-2 NDR OSFP switch ports on the trunk side and OSFP NDR endpoints (e.g., ConnectX-7 NDR) on the leg side. NOT compatible with HDR (QSFP56) ports, NDR200 (QSFP112), 400GbE QSFP-DD Ethernet ports, or passive-only host configurations. Active ACC modules require correct host firmware/transceiver support.
