Identity & Definition

This enterprise NVMe solid-state drive is the Samsung PM1725b 1.6TB U.2 NVMe Enterprise SSD (MZWLL1T6HAJQ-00005), a refurbished 2.5-inch data center storage device sold by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS. The Samsung PM1725b is a high-performance mixed-use/write-intensive enterprise NVMe SSD built on Samsung V-NAND MLC with the Samsung Phoenix controller, rated at approximately 3 DWPD. This is NOT a consumer SSD, NOT a SATA drive, and NOT a read-centric drive (the PM953 is the read-centric alternative). Condition: Refurbished — tested and verified by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS.

Engineering Context

The Samsung PM1725b 1.6TB (MZWLL1T6HAJQ-00005) delivers sequential read throughput up to 3,500 MB/s and sequential write throughput up to 2,000 MB/s over its PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.2 interface. Random read performance reaches approximately 700,000 IOPS and random write approximately 120,000 IOPS. The drive uses Samsung V-NAND MLC flash with the Samsung Phoenix controller. Endurance is rated at approximately 3 DWPD over 5 years. Enterprise features include capacitor-backed power-loss protection, AES 256-bit hardware encryption with TCG/Opal support, and end-to-end data path protection. The 15mm z-height is standard for U.2 enterprise drives. Active sustained write power consumption can reach approximately 17W. The PM1725b was succeeded by the PM1735 (PCIe 4.0) and later the PM1743.

Deployment & Use Cases

The Samsung PM1725b 1.6TB is deployed in write-intensive enterprise environments requiring sustained write throughput and low latency. Common workloads include OLTP database primary storage (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle), real-time analytics scratch space and write-ahead logging (WAL), write-heavy caching layers in tiered storage architectures, and high-transaction-rate application storage for financial platforms and messaging systems. VM hosting on VMware ESXi and Hyper-V where write endurance matters more than raw capacity also uses this drive. Common server platforms include Dell PowerEdge R series, HP ProLiant DL series, and Lenovo ThinkSystem with U.2 NVMe hot-swap bays.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints

The Samsung PM1725b MZWLL1T6HAJQ requires a U.2 (SFF-8639) NVMe-capable bay or U.2-to-PCIe adapter. It does NOT work in SATA backplanes, SAS backplanes, or M.2 slots. The 15mm z-height does NOT fit standard 7mm SATA trays. Verify that the server's U.2 bay power budget supports the PM1725b thermal envelope (up to ~17W sustained write). The PM1725b operates at PCIe 3.0 speeds even in Gen4 slots — for PCIe 4.0 native performance, the Samsung PM1735 or PM1743 are the successors. For read-centric workloads, the Samsung PM953 is more cost-effective. The PM1725b is NOT a read-centric drive — its value proposition is sustained write endurance and write throughput.
