The MTX6240-2SFS is a MetroX long-haul interconnect appliance for bridging fabrics between physically separate sites. It IS a dedicated data center interconnect (DCI) appliance with two long-haul ports and short-reach client-side ports. It is NOT a top-of-rack switch, line card, or in-rack server aggregation device — for ToR aggregation use Spectrum or Quantum switches; for blade-style EDR fabric use the SB7800 family.
Engineering Context. Two long-haul ports operate at 40Gb/s line rate per port, with reach up to 40 kilometers on single-mode dark fiber. Designed to extend InfiniBand and Ethernet semantics across metro distance, preserving end-to-end fabric properties for storage replication and HPC. Local-side short-reach ports attach to client-side fabric. Rack-mountable form factor with redundant power supplies (consult datasheet for exact wattage).
Deployment & Use Cases. Cross-campus or cross-metro DCI between two data centers, synchronous storage replication between primary and DR sites, HPC cluster bridging across two physical buildings, cloud zone interconnect for low-latency replication, and geographically redundant infrastructure for regulated industries.

Compatibility & Constraints. Requires single-mode dark fiber or a clean DWDM channel between the two sites. Pair with a matching MetroX appliance at the far end. Will NOT operate with multimode fiber on the long-haul ports. Reach beyond 40 km is not supported by this SKU; for longer distances or amplified links, use a higher-reach MetroX SKU. Long-haul optics and link parameters must match the dark-fiber plant.
