Identity & Definition

This 400GbE open Ethernet switch is the NVIDIA Mellanox MSN4700-WS2FO Spectrum-3 400GbE 1U Open Ethernet Switch (920-9N301-00FB-0N0), a refurbished 1U rackmount data center switching platform sold by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS. The MSN4700-WS2FO is a 32-port QSFP-DD 400GbE spine switch powered by the NVIDIA Spectrum-3 ASIC, shipping with ONIE bootloader (no NOS pre-installed) and P2C (Power-to-Connector) airflow. This is an Ethernet-only platform — it does NOT support InfiniBand. This is the ONIE/P2C variant; for Onyx/C2P see WS2R, for Cumulus/C2P see WS2RC, for Cumulus/P2C see WS2FC, for ONIE/C2P see WS2RO. Condition: Refurbished — tested and verified by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS.

Engineering Context

The hardware is identical to all MSN4700 variants: 32x QSFP-DD ports at 400GbE each, delivering 12.8Tb/s aggregate switching capacity in a 1U form factor. The Spectrum-3 ASIC provides deterministic sub-microsecond latency, up to 64MB shared packet buffer, What Just Happened (WJH) in-band network telemetry, and adaptive routing for ECMP load balancing. Per-port breakout supports 2x200G, 4x100G, 4x50G, or 8x25G configurations. QSFP-DD ports are backward-compatible with QSFP28 (100G), QSFP56 (200G), and QSFP+ (40G) optics. The WS2FO ships with ONIE (Open Network Install Environment), enabling installation of SONiC, Cumulus Linux, NVIDIA Onyx, DENT, or other ONIE-compatible NOS. The P2C airflow direction draws air from the power supply side and exhausts through the connector side. Power is supplied via dual hot-swap redundant AC PSUs.

Deployment & Use Cases

The MSN4700-WS2FO is the preferred variant for hyperscale cloud environments running SONiC or Cumulus Linux where NOS flexibility is required. It serves as a spine or aggregation switch in leaf-spine datacenter fabrics requiring 400GbE density with open NOS choice. AI/ML GPU cluster backbones (NVIDIA DGX, HGX) requiring SONiC for disaggregated networking use this variant. Multi-vendor NOS strategies where ONIE provides hardware-agnostic NOS portability also use WS2FO. The P2C airflow direction is designed for environments where cool air enters from the power supply (rear) side of the rack.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints

The MSN4700-WS2FO is Ethernet only — the Spectrum-3 ASIC does NOT support InfiniBand. No NOS is pre-installed beyond ONIE — a network operating system must be installed before the switch is operational. SONiC is the most common NOS choice for Spectrum-3. The P2C airflow direction is the OPPOSITE of the WS2R/WS2RC/WS2RO (C2P) — mixing airflow directions in the same rack causes thermal hotspots. QSFP-DD ports are backward-compatible with QSFP28 and QSFP56 optics but full 400GbE requires QSFP-DD optics or DACs. Maximum per-port speed is 400GbE — for 800GbE, the Spectrum-4 SN5600 platform is required. The Spectrum-3 predecessor is the Spectrum-2 SN3700 (100GbE).
