Identity & Definition
This managed InfiniBand switch, the NVIDIA Mellanox MQM9700-NS2F (NVIDIA P/N 920-9B210-00FN-0M0), is a Quantum-2 NDR-generation fixed-configuration switch providing 32 OSFP ports in a 2U form factor. Each port operates at 400 Gb/s NDR (800 Gb/s bidirectional), delivering an aggregate switching capacity of 25.6 Tb/s. This is an InfiniBand-only switch and does not support Ethernet. The MQM9700-NS2F uses P2C (port-to-connector / front-to-back) airflow direction. This is a refurbished unit, tested and verified by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS.
Engineering Context
The MQM9700-NS2F is built on NVIDIA's Quantum-2 ASIC, which provides 64 NDR ports at 400 Gb/s each internally. In the NS2F configuration, these are presented as 32 OSFP cages, each carrying 8x100G PAM4 lanes for 800 Gb/s bidirectional throughput per port. The switch supports SHARP (Scalable Hierarchical Aggregation and Reduction Protocol) for in-network computing, offloading collective operations from CPUs/GPUs. It also supports adaptive routing and congestion control for zero-packet-loss fabric operation. The integrated management processor provides full SNMP, CLI, and Unified Fabric Manager (UFM) support.
Deployment & Use Cases
Core or leaf switch in NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD and HGX-based AI training clusters. Spine or leaf in large-scale HPC supercomputing fabrics requiring NDR 400 Gb/s per-port bandwidth. GPU-to-GPU interconnect fabric for NCCL, UCX, and GPUDirect RDMA workloads. High-radix fat-tree or dragonfly topologies in research institutions and national labs. Storage fabric backbone for high-throughput parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale) over InfiniBand.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints
The 32 OSFP ports accept NDR OSFP transceivers, OSFP DAC cables, OSFP AOC cables, and OSFP fanout/splitter cables (such as MCP7Y40 or MCP7Y50 series for NDR200 breakout). The MQM9700-NS2F is NOT an Ethernet switch and does not support any Ethernet protocol. It is NOT compatible with HDR (QSFP56) or EDR (QSFP28) transceivers or cables — those require different switch models (QM8700 for HDR, QM8790 for HDR). The P2C airflow variant (NS2F) must be matched to front-to-back datacenter cooling; for back-to-front cooling, the NS2R variant is required. This switch requires NVIDIA UFM or CLI-based subnet management for fabric configuration.
