Unlike FR4 modules (which use duplex LC cables), the DR4 standard uses parallel fiber (MPO) to enable "Breakout Mode." This allows a single 400G switch port to function as four discrete 100G ports, connecting to 100GBASE-DR1 transceivers (like the MMS1V70-CM). It supports KP4 FEC (Forward Error Correction) to ensure data integrity over the 500m reach.

🛠️ Installation & Optical Requirements

  • Connector Type - APC: This transceiver uses an MPO-12 APC (Angled Physical Contact) connector, identifiable by the green housing on the cable. Do NOT connect standard flat (UPC/Blue) MPO cables; doing so will shatter the fiber cores and destroy the transceiver lens.
  • Thermal Design: With a 12W TDP, this module runs hot. Ensure your switch fan policy is set to dynamic/high performance. Do not obstruct airflow in the QSFP-DD cage.
  • Breakout Cabling: For 4x100G mode, use an MPO-12 APC to 4x LC Single Mode breakout cable (if connecting to DR1/FR1 transceivers) or an MPO-to-MPO trunk depending on the remote end architecture.
