Identity & Definition
This passive copper hybrid breakout cable, the NVIDIA Mellanox MCP7F80-W003 (NVIDIA P/N 980-9I619-00W003), converts a single 400GbE QSFP-DD port into eight independent 50GbE SFP56 connections over a 3-meter 26AWG LSZH assembly. It is a high-density 1-to-8 breakout DAC (direct attach cable), not a trunk cable or a 1-to-4 breakout. The MCP7F80-W003 is an Ethernet-only product and does not support InfiniBand. This is a refurbished unit, tested and verified by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS.
Engineering Context
The MCP7F80-W003 splits the eight 50 Gb/s PAM4 lanes inside a single QSFP-DD interface into eight separate SFP56 outputs, each carrying one 50 Gb/s PAM4 lane. This yields an aggregate of 400 Gb/s across all eight legs. As a passive copper cable with 26AWG conductors and LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jacket, it introduces sub-microsecond latency, draws zero power, and complies with fire-safety requirements for enclosed spaces. At 3 meters the cable is within the passive copper specification for 50GBASE-CR PAM4 signaling. Color-coded SFP56 connectors aid port identification in high-density deployments.
Deployment & Use Cases
Maximizing 400GbE switch port utilization on NVIDIA Spectrum-3 (SN4000 series) or Spectrum-4 switches by connecting eight 50GbE server NICs per switch port. High-density AI/ML GPU cluster connectivity where each compute node requires a 50GbE link. Storage fabric builds connecting NVMe-oF storage targets at 50GbE per port from a single 400GbE uplink. VMware ESXi or KVM hypervisor hosts with ConnectX-5/ConnectX-6 adapters operating SFP56 ports at 50GbE.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints
The QSFP-DD end of the MCP7F80-W003 connects to any 400GbE QSFP-DD switch port that supports 8x50G breakout mode, including NVIDIA Spectrum-3 (SN4000 series) and Spectrum-4 platforms. The eight SFP56 ends connect to standard 50GbE SFP56 ports on server NICs such as ConnectX-5 or ConnectX-6 operating in 50GbE mode. This cable is NOT compatible with OSFP, QSFP28 (100GbE), QSFP56 (InfiniBand HDR), or SFP28 (25GbE) ports. It does NOT support InfiniBand in any generation. It does NOT provide 400GbE-to-4x100GbE breakout — that requires a different cable (e.g., MCP7H00-G00x series with QSFP-DD to 4x QSFP56). For shorter reaches, the MCP7F80-W001 (1m) variant is available.
