Identity & Definition
The NVIDIA Mellanox MCP7H60-C002 is a passive DAC (Direct Attach Copper) splitter cable in the enterprise Ethernet interconnect category. This is a 2-meter cable that breaks out a single 200GbE QSFP-DD port into two independent 100GbE QSFP28 connections. NVIDIA P/N: 980-9I98O-00V002. This is an Ethernet-only breakout cable, not an InfiniBand cable. This is a splitter (1-to-2), not a straight cable. Condition: Refurbished.
Engineering Context
The MCP7H60-C002 enables incremental migration from 200GbE QSFP-DD switch infrastructure to existing 100GbE QSFP28 devices. A single QSFP-DD 200GbE port on a Spectrum-3 or Spectrum-4 switch splits into two independent 100GbE QSFP28 links, each connecting to a separate 100GbE NIC, switch, or server. As a passive copper cable, it consumes zero power and adds minimal latency (no signal processing). At 2 meters, it is designed for in-rack and adjacent-rack-unit connections. The QSFP-DD end uses 8 lanes at 25 Gb/s each (PAM4), split into two groups of 4 lanes for the two QSFP28 outputs.
Deployment & Use Cases
Connecting 200GbE Spectrum-3 or Spectrum-4 spine switches to 100GbE ConnectX-5 or ConnectX-6 NICs via breakout. Incremental 200GbE migration where leaf switches and servers remain at 100GbE. Maximizing port utilization on QSFP-DD switches by doubling the number of 100GbE endpoints per physical port. In-rack 100GbE server connectivity from 200GbE uplinks in SONiC or Cumulus Linux environments.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints
Ethernet only — this is an Ethernet breakout cable. It is NOT for InfiniBand use. QSFP-DD to QSFP28 splitter — the QSFP-DD end connects to a 200GbE port; the two QSFP28 ends connect to 100GbE ports. This is NOT reversible — two 100GbE links cannot be combined into one 200GbE with this cable. Passive copper — 2 m maximum reach (fixed length). For longer distances, active optical breakout cables are required. Compatible switches must have QSFP-DD ports with 2x100G breakout mode support (e.g., NVIDIA Spectrum-3 MSN4600, Spectrum-4 SN5600). The switch port must be configured for breakout mode via NOS CLI. Not compatible with InfiniBand switches or 400GbE QSFP-DD ports configured for 4x100G breakout.
