NVIDIA Mellanox MCA7J65-N005 Active Copper Breakout Cable, NDR 800Gb/s OSFP to 2x 400Gb/s QSFP112, 5m, InfiniBand NDR: This enterprise networking cable is a 5-meter active copper cable (ACC) that breaks out a single 800Gb/s NDR OSFP switch port into two independent 400Gb/s QSFP112 connections, part number MCA7J65-N005 (NVIDIA P/N 980-9I81C-00N005). The integrated ACC chipset provides signal regeneration for stable NDR operation over 5 meters. This is a refurbished unit, tested by T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS.
Engineering Context
The MCA7J65-N005 converts one OSFP 800Gb/s NDR port into two independent QSFP112 400Gb/s NDR links. Each 400Gb/s leg uses 4x 100Gb/s PAM4 lanes (8 lanes total from the OSFP). The active copper design includes signal regeneration and conditioning chipsets at each end, enabling full NDR speed stability over 5 meters — beyond the reach of passive copper for NDR. The cable is directional: OSFP end connects to the switch, QSFP112 ends connect to NICs/DPUs. QSFP112 is the InfiniBand NDR 400G form factor and is NOT the same as Ethernet QSFP-DD.
Deployment & Use Cases
Connecting NVIDIA Quantum-2 NDR switches (OSFP ports) to ConnectX-7 or ConnectX-8 NDR NICs and DPUs (QSFP112 ports). AI training clusters with DGX/HGX systems requiring rack-to-rack NDR breakout. GPU node aggregation in fat-tree and dragonfly NDR InfiniBand topologies. Multi-host HPC racks where one switch port serves two compute endpoints.

Compatibility & Hard Constraints
InfiniBand NDR Only: This cable is designed exclusively for InfiniBand NDR. It does not support Ethernet. QSFP112 ≠ QSFP-DD: QSFP112 is the InfiniBand NDR 400G form factor. It is mechanically similar to QSFP28/56 but electrically different. Not compatible with Ethernet 400G QSFP-DD ports. OSFP + QSFP112 Required: OSFP end requires a Quantum-2 NDR switch. QSFP112 ends require ConnectX-7, ConnectX-8, or compatible NDR endpoints. Not compatible with HDR (QSFP56) or EDR (QSFP28) devices. Directional: OSFP end must connect to the switch, QSFP112 ends to endpoints. Cable Management: 5m Y-splitter is heavier than standard DACs; use velcro straps and rear cable organizers.
