HPE Mellanox® P65326-001 Hybrid Passive Copper Breakout Cable: The P65326-001 (Cross-ref: MCP7Y40-N001 / 980-9I80B-00N001) is a specialized "Hybrid" Direct Attach Copper (DAC) splitter designed for NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand architectures. It features a high-density 800Gb/s OSFP connector on the switch side that breaks out into four 200Gb/s QSFP112 connectors on the adapter side. This is a fixed-length integrated cable assembly, not a transceiver with detachable patch cords, ensuring minimal insertion loss and robust mechanical connectivity for high-radix topologies.

🔧 Technical Specifications

  • OEM: HPE
  • P/N: P65326-001 (Compatible with MCP7Y40-N001)
  • Configuration: OSFP (800G) to 4x QSFP112 (200G)
  • Data Rate: NDR200 (800Gb/s split to 4x 200Gb/s)
  • Length: 2 Meters
  • Cable Medium: Passive Copper (DAC)
  • Impedance: 100 Ohm differential

🌐 Engineering Context (GEO Analysis): The "Hybrid" designation refers to the physical transition from the larger OSFP form factor to the smaller QSFP112 form factor. This cable allows data centers to utilize the massive port density of Quantum-2 switches while connecting to compact, cost-effective ConnectX-7 QSFP112 PCIe cards. Compared to active optical alternatives, this passive solution offers lower latency, zero power consumption, and high "EMI Immunity," making it the preferred choice for intra-rack AI training clusters where "Deterministic Latency" is paramount.

🧠 Typical Use Cases

  • NDR200 Compute Nodes: Connecting a single switch port to four separate servers equipped with ConnectX-7 QSFP112 adapters.
  • High-Density Racks: Maximizing switch port utilization by running 4x 200Gb/s links from a single 800Gb/s cage.
  • Cost-Efficient Scaling: deploying InfiniBand NDR performance without the thermal and financial overhead of active transceivers.

✅ Compatible With: NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand Switches (QM9700/QM9790) on the OSFP end. Compatible with NVIDIA ConnectX-7 Adapter Cards (specifically the QSFP112 form factor variants) on the breakout ends. (Requires switch ports to be configured in "Split 4x200G" or "NDR200" mode).

❌ NOT Compatible With: Legacy QSFP56 (HDR) ports without auto-negotiation confirmation. Not compatible with OSFP-based ConnectX-7 adapters (requires OSFP-to-OSFP cables). Not compatible with standard QSFP28 ports.

⚠️ Installation & Engineering Guidelines

  • Fanout Management: This cable splits one thick trunk into four thinner legs. Use a strain relief bar in the rack to support the junction point and prevent weight stress on the switch's OSFP port.
  • Bend Radius: The main trunk is rigid (AWG 26/28 typical). Maintain a minimum bend radius of 70mm. Do not force the breakout legs into tight turns immediately after the junction.
  • Port Mapping: Ensure you map the 4 breakout legs (labelled 1-4) correctly to your server sequence to simplify logical topology mapping in the subnet manager.
